Abstract
Objective : It is the point of time that is needed an effort for a national support in the field of dental care industry in order to jump up to be the advanced country in dental service industry. The purpose of this study was to compare the present condition of R&D in dentistry from the longitudinal perspective focusing on data of the national R&D information knowledge portal.

Method : The data, which was used in analysis, is the recent one of the national R&D information knowledge portal (NTIS, National Science and Technology Information Service). Only the research projects, which correspond to the field of dentistry, were included by searching each research related to dental care, which had been supported by the government for 7 years from 2007 to 2014. It compared the tendency of research and development in the dental care field according to the National S&T Standard Classification and the government ministry, and analyzed the present condition of possessing out of the whole healthcare R&D.

Results : The R&D investment in dental care technology based on the data of NTIS generally increased from 12 billion won in 2007 and reduced to 16.9 billion won in 2010, but steadily grew after this and then was supported 35.6 billion won in 2014. The R&D ratio in the dental care field compared to the total amount of the R&D investment in healthcare accounts for 3.4% in 2008, 2.9% in 2009, 1.7% in 2010, 1.7% in 2011, 2.4% in 2012, and 2.0% in 2013. Thus, the R&D investment in the dental field out of the whole healthcare R&D has relatively low weight compared to Oriental medicine and nursing science and is judged to be little in possibility to be improved.

Conclusion : As a result of this study, a method of operating R&D, which is different from so far, seems to be demanded in order to promote research and development in the dental care field of our country.
